OUR PURPOSE

MISSION STATEMENT

Harriet’s Children is a faith-based ministry, headquartered at Greater Mt. Calvary Holy Church in Washington, D.C. Our mission is to organize and lead a faith-based movement that will help rescue women from drugs, alcohol and to aid in the prevention of the use of these dangerous chemical substances that are not only impacting their lives, but their children.

GOALS

Through one-on-one counseling, support groups, prison ministry, and a strong dependence on spiritual disciplines, such as prayer, faith, worship and fasting, our goal is to help restore the addicted and those broken through substance abuse to wholeness.  Following restoration, we hope to equip those liberated from the bondage of chemical addiction with the resources and understanding to aid in the healing process of other addicted women.  The group is named after the famed liberator, Harriet Tubman, who after being freed from slavery herself carried out the mission of freeing others.  In continuing that tradition, we offer services that help improve employment skills, motivation self-reliance and dependability.

LONG-RANGE OBJECTIVES

Harriet’s Children, in a joint effort with the D.O.O.G. Institute, will build a Holistic Healing Center for women in the Maryland Suburbs, where women can be temporarily removed, retrained and refocused. The Healing Center will lay a strong spiritual foundation and provide medical assistance on a limited basis for addicted, depressed and/or abused women.  The Center will be showcase for the creative arts and talent of African-American women, which will serve both a therapeutic function, as well as inspire and motivate.  It will offer job, counseling, and housing programs with the intention of healing broken lives, and strengthening families and communities.
